Piotr Solnica recently wrote a blog post explaining how to write a well defined model API in a way that controller actions do not use ActiveRecord finders and, in fact, don’t interact with ActiveRecord at all. This keeps your ActiveRecord models thin, and focuses on splitting your business logic into more, separate, focused classes.
