We've all done it, added a controller for serving up static files. In this article Mikel Lindsaar shares how he serves up these pages on StillAlive.com. He uses a catchall route with a pages controller, and in the view he fragment caches the static content. What's unique is the cache key on these static pages... he uses the git revision cache.
